Super Visa Travel Insurance

Super Visa insurance is a must if you're planning to visit Canada

The Visitor to Canada insurance is available for visiting family, relatives, friends, landed immigrants or returning Canadians waiting for provincial health coverage, and for individuals in Canada on a work or student visa. To apply for a Super Visa in Canada, visitors entering the country must have at least $100,000 in health coverage issued by a Canadian insurance company. This ensures visitors can pay for their health care if they become sick or injured while in Canada.

What is a visitor Super Visa?

The Canadian government introduced Super Visas in 2011 to manage the backlog of applications received from visitors who wanted to stay for extended periods in Canada. The visa is valid for up to 10 years. It is granted to qualified parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Unlike the regular visitor’s visa, which allows someone to remain in Canada for only six months, the Super Visa allows a stay of up to two years with an option to apply for an extension.

A prepaid travel insurance policy is required

To obtain a Super Visa status for your parents or grandparents, you are required to purchase private medical insurance, also known as travel insurance, from a Canadian insurance company that:

  • The policy is valid for a minimum of one year;
  • Must cover health care, hospitalization and repatriation;
  • Provides a minimum coverage of $100,000;
  • Valid for each entry to Canada and available for review by a port of entry officer

The process of getting quotes is straightforward

Complete the travel insurance quote form with your arrival and departure dates, your age and the age of any travel companions (adults and children) and the coverage amount. You will then receive competing quotes from several insurance companies in Canada. If you want to stay longer, only the arrival date is required. We will arrange for your coverage for up to one year (for visitors) or until you get the provincial medicare plan (landed immigrants and returning Canadians). Coverage is also available if you leave Canada for short trips to, for example, the United States.

Travel insurance advice you can count on

Obtaining travel medical insurance from a Canadian company is better for travellers. Canadian insurance companies are some of the best-rated companies in the world. They are more knowledgeable about the Canadian medical system and are familiar with costs and possible challenges. They are also easier to contact while visiting since they have operating offices in major Canadian cities.
